FEAR NOT for January 16, 2016

Deuteronomy 1:17 "Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it."
BACKGROUND: Moses needed help in leading the nation of Israel, so God told him to appointed 70 judges -- wise and knowledgeable men --over the people. As judges, they are to be guided by the following principles which Moses spoke to them in verses 16 and 17: 1. they should judge righteously; 2. they should avoid partiality; 3. they should render judgment which is rightly due; 4. they should elevate difficult cases to a higher authority and, in this particular case, to Moses.

PERSONAL APPLICATION: My take-away from this verse is this: If we are placed in positions of leadership, we should always remember that it is a big responsibility and we should take it seriously, especially if the lives of other people depend on us doing our job well. Like the judges appointed by Moses, we should treat people with respect, with kindness, with fairness, without impartiality, and, in the way that we would want to be treated if our positions were reversed. With great responsibility comes even greater accountability, especially when it involves the spiritual aspect of people's lives. People's souls and their eternal destiny hang in the balance, so, all Christians, but especially pastors and Christian workers, need to always be mindful of this grave responsibility that has been laid on their/our shoulders
