i miss you, Mom!!!

Soon after we arrived here in Brooke's Point, Palawan, for our 2-year missionary adventure with TEMI (Telos Euarestos Ministries, Inc.), we began going through the boxes that we had shipped from Cebu back in 2014. Inevitably, we would discover items that we had forgotten about in the past 4 years since hurriedly packing them up  in Cebu to send to Palawan. What fun it has been to rediscover these parts of our past that have been hidden in boxes for the past 4+ years!!
But... i wasn't prepared for the flood of feelings when i opened this one box and i saw my Mom's sewing basket... This sewing basket was with her when we lived in Illinois when my parents were studying at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School from 1965 to 1969. I remember my Mom using the needles and thread from this basket to show me how to sew when I was just a little girl. You may not see it, but my Mom repaired this basket a few times. She never was one to throw away something just because it wasn't 100% anymore... If it could be fixed, she would keep it...
I was especially touched when I saw her black SCISSORS!!! many was the time when she would ask me to get her scissors for her when she was sewing or when she needed it for one task or another... i'm sure she was the one who showed me how to correctly hold the scissors when giving it to someone... the screw on the scissors was a bit loose, so i tightened it up and now it's good to go again --- for another 50+ years!!!
even though the sewing basket is very old, there are so many memories associated with this simple basket. but, more importantly, it's another part of my Mom (like her Bible) that i still have with me which reminds me of the spectacular person that she was and all the things I learned from her!!
