FEAR NOT for January 11, 2016

Exodus 14:13  "And Moses said to the people, Do not fear, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will show to you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen to day, you shall not see them again for ever."

BACKGROUND:  An estimated 2 million Israelites had just been led out of Egypt by Moses, but now they were facing sure death in the Red Sea. With the sea in front of them and mountains on both sides, they had nowhere to go but back. Or so they felt. Obviously, they blamed Moses for taking them out of Egypt into the unknown. At this point, they had probably lost faith in him. And although Moses did not know how God would rescue them, he trusted God which is how he was able to respond with such confidence in order to allay the peoples' fear.

COMMENTARY:  by Chuck Smith (blueletterbible.org) These were words of faith [spoken] by Moses because he knew that when God guides, God provides.
From the Isidro Annotated Old Testament:  "Although the salvation spoken by Moses was physical, this is a very great picture of our spiritual and eternal salvation. Salvation comes from the Lord. We do not and cannot do anything about it. It is of God."

PERSONAL APPLICATION:  We sometimes find ourselves in tight positions with no possible avenues of escape.  We must remember that God has allowed us to get there. What He wants is for us to trust wholly in Him. Through the trials that we find ourselves going through, God wants to teach us valuable lessons. He wants us to remember that if God is for us, who can be against us? He wants to remind us that the Lord can make a way even where there seems to be no way. He also wants us to remember that with God, NOTHING is impossible!
